Diabetes afflicts millions around the world – 24 million in 2008 in the United States. These numbers grow annually, but with the assistance of 7 mineral and vitamin supplements that prevent diabetes, onset of the condition can be delayed or prevented altogether.
This condition is found in children and adults worldwide. Diabetes causes the blood sugar level in the body to increase, which can only be controlled, as there is currently no cure. One of several vitamins used in the prevention of diabetes is Vitamin D. A recent study at Massey University showed that higher than usual doses of this vitamin may increase insulin sensitivity. Because sunlight is the best source of this vitamin, a higher dose may be particularly useful to people living in colder climes or who do not get the opportunity to get out into the sunshine often.
Vitamin E and Magnesium
Vitamin E is believed to improve insulin activity, as is magnesium, making the insulin more effective and helping to regulate the level of blood sugar in the body. Biotin is one of the B vitamins that has been shown to increase the activity of the enzyme controlling the first stage in glucose utilization, called glucokinase.
Manganese, Zinc, Vanadium and Potassium
People who do not have diabetes have been found to have almost double the manganese that diabetics have in their bodies and due to it’s role in glucose metabolism, is important to prevent diabetes. Zinc is used by our bodies in the entire insulin metabolism process. Vanadium and potassium are believed to increase insulin sensitivity, making them an important supplement for prevention.
If the right doses are taken, these vitamins are believed to help prevent diabetes. Because the doses needed to be effective are generally much higher than would normally be required, there is some debate on this topic. Check with a physician before embarking on a supplement program, as there may be pre-existing medical conditions that prevent you from taking certain supplements.
These 7 mineral and vitamin supplements that prevent diabetes can certainly help stave off this condition, but the right amounts must be taken properly in order for them to be really effective.
Vitamins C, B6 and B12 should be part of the control program for diabetics, as these can help reduce some of the symptoms and side effects of diabetes, and should also be included in the vitamin supplements that prevent diabetes
